Why didn't i offer an excuse? Good question. 2009 has presented me with so many issues that it would take hours to discuss and most folks get bored in a conversation about someone else's problems. Why? They have enough of their own. My remark to my friend's question was a simple, "too busy" and it worked. Trying to keep going in an economy gone bad can cause time problems. Where others would help in a strong economy in a bad economy things come to a stand still. A good example is the column I write for Michigan Christians for Life's Web Site. To buy time I asked a friend to let me use a story he wrote several years ago. Thank goodness he let me run it. Keeping me busy were problems that were carried over from the 2008 presidential election. As you may recall I couldn't support the Democratic National Party Candidates and Local Democrats in Michigan. I've always been a democrat but find it very hard to vote that way since 1973 . Reason. The U.S. Supreme Court made a life ending decision in 1973 and ruled that God had nothing to do with human life and ruled that abortion on demand was legal in all 48 States. What resulted was the cheapening of human life, a decrease in the population and a very liberal National Democratic Party who are supported by the abortion industry. In that election, functioning as the Executive Director of Pro-Life Democrats in Michigan and President of Michigan Christians for Life, I had to work with the Republican "leadership" which you already read about in my previous message. Much of that carried over into early 2009. As I write this I'm still trying to arrange a meeting with President Barack Obama to discuss Life issues and and the democratic party. At the moment I'm going nowhere with it. This morning I read that President Obama was visiting the Pope and he gave him some information on the Catholic Church's position on Life issues. Let's pray he reads it and acts on it. Continuing with my message, I've had some issues with friends and family members mainly relating to the economy in Michigan and beyond. I support the American Automotive Industry and have been debating with those who don't. If you reside in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Missouri you already know that it was the imports and the tax breaks they were given here against the taxes we had to pay to their Governments to sell American made cars and trucks. As a side note to the many take aways and cut backs given to the American Auto Workers let me give you may two-cents worth. As a former Local Union president and bargaining committee member I can affirm that retired Union Auto Workers WERE promised benefits throughout their retirement but when the pot started boiling the powers that be developed amnesia. Last but not least to my problems of 2009 are the issues of old friends who have become more avarice than Uncle Scrooge in the Christmas Story. As the economy falls apart several of them have put their own needs in front of doing the right thing thereby changing their personalities.
